happy new year!

I thought of putting up a bright picture to start a new year. Also this happens to be a part of temple called vittal mandir at sinhagad road.It is auspicious start to the new year by temple painting.

Well to be honest, even if it was a horse stable with bright colour i would have put it up!!

close up

It is fun to just take a closeup shot of an object and do the painting. In this case just a wall with texture and sunlight is drawn.Artist not good at perspective very often resort to such paintings.

A long shot, i.e. seascapes, distant mountains, country side, such scenes dont require a great perspective command and tight closeups also dont demand the perspective. But architectural structures do need practice and understanding of perspective.

This is a painting of just one wall of a structure in university of pune.Colonial period sructure has its own charm.

callipicture

Acrylic on canvass 11x11 inches.

painting of a sketch 1

When i was not able to go outdoors,I tried to paint from photographs, but found it boring as was unknowingly trying to copy it.But i resisted copying painting done by masters,as i could never mix the colours as they had.So finally i settled for a black and white skeches as abase for my paintings. It was totally upto me to decide the colour pallette. The shading was indicated in sketches and composition was ready!

These sketches were by Artist Shivaji Tupe, who i met later and also showed my painting! This i did in initial stage of my watercolour days. Now i dont do this any more, but i have about 20 such painting !!

wet in wet

this a painting i did few years back. The wet in wet technique is tried out here.I like to mix watercolours directly on papers, except darker tones. The surprise results of mixing on paper is something i enjoy!

Wada at wai

Wada means a house with a courtyard. For safty reasons all rooms can be be secured by just locking the front main door. The court acts as multipurpose space and a sourse of light and ventilation.

In summer days only court is bright and somewalls are in shade, this is what i have tried to show in this painting.

foliage

Somebody said that in watercolours, when you show trees at a distance, dont show leaves, and when you show jungle(folliage) dont show trees. In this picture, i have tried to do the same, and mostly i follow this principle. My inspiration is David Talor of Australia, and he is master at conveying trees with just a minimum detailing.

finally the final picture!

This is a whole picture.I strongly believe that there are smaller paintings in a whole picture. This was an exercise to verify this fact,It was fun doing it.

this is almost final!

I painted this door as a practise for one another painting to be done at a friends place. This is my daughters room door, which she allowed me to experiment with !!

Something different

I see many smaller paintings , or say good compositions,in a big full painting.manually i keep cropping my paintings to salvage good parts, which i use to paste on my personal letterhead.

Since photoshop can do the same for photos, i am putting up one big painting in a fragmented way,one by one for next 4 days. The whole painting will be revealed on next weekend.

This is done as acalligraphic composition in acrylic medium.

riverside activity.

this is painted in the studio,a very rare thing for me to do.Photograph was very clear and i had seen the place, hence it was not very difficult.size -35x50 cms

two views of same temple.

these are two compositions done at the same venue, and almost at the same time, but different days.It is up to you to decide which one is more spontanious and better.....

nursery

I took a photograph on the spot itself hence you can see two twigs on the paper!they are adding to the painting.most of the roofs in sun i leave it as white paper, which now my friends call it as my signature feature in drawings.

last sunday,I was painting in a 40 acre botanical garden, where i found this bamboo growth.

After painting so many different trees, this was a welcome change!

morning light 3

i find it very difficult to paint against light. This is one of such attempts. The dark foliage has filtered sunlight and ground has dark shadows.T the same time open ares behind are soaked in morning light!
it was a great spot.
size 15x11

ILS law college

It was not a perfect composition according to me ,hence i have cropped it to make square composition.Looks better this way.It is a loose landscape, size 11x 11 inches

watertanks

I found these blue painted water tanks in sunlight a good subject to paint.I find copying a landscape as it is seen very unnecessry,so i just look at spot as reference point, and avoid making a photocopy of what i see.My pictures hence look totally mismatched with actual spot!

pocket diary sketch 1

I always carry a pocket diary ,a sort of sketch approx.4"x5" in size.It is ideal to record images when travelling and when conditions are not good to sit and draw.I have been doing pen sketches for many years in this pocketsize book, but recently i discovered that it takes good watercolour paint too.

It is said that size does matter.in this case small can be beautiful too.!!
